Captains log // 2145.11.03.2009

I was actually reminded the other day that the new star trek movie is coming out!!! woohoo and directed by none other than the legendary J J Abrams (LOST, ALIAS, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE III). Does anyone know if this is an odd one or even one?

Anyways so Pete James has written some music for the movie. It sounds really good! I am pretty excited! So Kudos to PJ! you rock my socks off.

All I need now is a good voice over lady in the same vein as Emma Thompson from Stranger than Fiction… but where would I find one of those? haha

So I was just geeking around and doing some more grading tests and I found interesting things about the 5d footage

THE GOOD :
No I can’t change the frame rate but there is surprisingly a lot more latitude in the picture than I had first suspected.

THE BAD
Now I was raving about how amazing it was in low light conditions and yes it can shoot some crazy nice stuff in low light. HOWEVER there is an unbelievable amount of noise and trying to grade this footage is pretty horrible mainly because you get some terrible artifacts in the low light areas.

Anyways, its just something to think about
we’re shooting this weekend and for the most part, we’re pretty close to being completely organised. Actors are cast, locations are mostly locked down and the script is ready to go! so pray for us! we may very well need it! haha
