So if you head over to Greyscalegorilla.com, he has this blog about 5 second projects. Essentially it’s all about encouraging you to get creative but giving you some restrictions to play with.

So I thought I’d give it a crack by making some 3D in blender and then finishing it off in After Effects.

This is my fourth experiment using the shape keys and parenting using verticies:

This is my third experiment using the physics engine:

This is my second experiment using the explosion modifier:

Here is what I made!

And here is the breakdown of what I did compositionally in After effects and Blender:

Whether you like or not isn’t so much the point, but just to try something I’d never done before. And so I did!

Anyways, I’ll be making a tutorial about something 3d in the future :) But the next one will probably be on final cut …

Happy Australia Day everyone!

Another Blender Experiment + Five Second Projects

So I am dabbling a lot more in 3D and at the moment my weapon of choice is Blender (mostly cause it is free). But the fun thing is I am finding a lot of cool things I can do with Blender that I never thought an open source could ever achieve!

if you don’t believe me have a look at the link below!

Blender and After Effects experiment 2

Ok so I headed over to greyscalegorilla.com to learn some stuff in cinema 4d, and one thing he was talking about was ambient occlusion which to me is really baffling. But after watching his tutorial on the Spin logo, it got me thinking if I could do a similar rendering pass in Blender. This what I achieved so far:

Blender Render with Ambient Occlusion turned on

Blender Render with Ambient Occlusion turned on

likewise this is the same render without ambient occlusion turned off:

Logo without ambient occlusion turned on

Logo without ambient occlusion turned on

I’ll be posting more about this very soon!

Ambient Occlusion in Blender

The truth is, there are a million work arounds to get faux 3D text in After Effects, but they never quite look like the solid 3D objects you really want. But I guess a lot of you there really don’t want to splash out on getting a 3D program just for text. Well what about using blender and finishing it up in After Effects?

This is the test I did:

The idea is to render out just the elements I need and then making the rest in After Effects. I’ll post this tutorial up soon! Stay tuned!

Hey guys,

I have a new youtube channel – FIX IT IN POST.

The channel will be dedicated to the production process from start to finish and cover all those little things you may want to know about doing better video work! Some of it will be simple and other stuff will be a little more challenging.

Check it out here!
